RSA is often called upon to assess the structural condition, stability, and adequacy of existing facades. We have performed these services on facades of many different sizes, constructed in all different materials. A recognized leader in the field, RSA often uses non-destructive testing and evaluation, while at work in this area. We have worked on the restoration of major historic building facades including Carnegie Hall, Ellis Island, and the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. This assessment of historic building envelopes has added significantly to our knowledge and expertise in the evaluation and design of repairs to more modern buildings.

Under the auspices of local, state, and federal government agencies, as well as private owners, we assist architects in the preparation of comprehensive scoping reports that can be used for budgeting and scheduling of repair work. For more complex projects, we also provide performance documents for the design and construction of temporary scaffolding enclosures and/ or temporary access platforms. These elements can afford owners and building occupants full time protection from the elements and expedite the repair and/or replacement of deteriorated building envelopes.

Because of our experience with buildings from many different historical periods, we have seen a wide variety of material and design successes and failures. Our work on facade repair and/or replacement therefore is a combination of time-tested efforts, long-lived designs, modern materials, and the most economical arrangements of materials. We investigate and assess the building envelope, we analyze the structural issues and how they relate to the architectural performance of the building, and we provide designs for repair and or replacement of facade elements.
